The Happiest Place on Earth and I'm going

By the time you are reading this, the kids, Mom and I will be 3 hours into out mini-vaca to the happiest place on earth!! Yup, that’s right we are finally headed to Disneyland!! It’s been a few years since we have been there so we are pretty excited. Excited to see the changes in the park, excited to go and ready for a good time Rain or Shine!! Yea, it’s supposed to rain the entire time we are there.
See, back when the Elusive Teen was just a toddling, curly-haired, sweet thing, Mom set up the tradition of taking her to Disneyland on her birthday.B We went every year, just us three until she was 14 or so.B We usually tried to go around her birthday! It was a special girls trip.B As for H, he has been only once.B I know, I am a total Disney fanatic yet the boy has only been once.B He is currently bouncing off the walls.B And has only panicked once, when my dad tried to tell him that Disneyland was closed coz of the storm and he would have to stay home and clean the chicken coop.
So this trip is special on so many levels, for one both the kids are old enough to still feel the magic that is Disney, we get to go with Mom and this is a celebration of sorts.B Mom has been with her company for 40 years.B Nope, that’s not a mistake or a mistype.B Forty years with the same company!! That is just insanely amazing.B I am so proud and awestruck by that.B No, I’m not naming the company but I will say that my mom has been through a lot with this company, including being in an industry and position that wasn’t friendly to women during a time when that was accepted.B Not only did she stick out those prejudices but she did so with style and aplomb.B Yes, I’m telling you that my mom did a job that at the time only men did and she not only succeeded she excelled.B So, for her work anniversary, we get to go to Disneyland and Club 33!!
Mom and I have been dying to go to Club 33 for years and years.B It is really exciting for us and while I have devoured all the information that the interwebz have provided, I’m still not sure what to expect.B Partly, coz it’s aB Walt Disney thing and any man that says ” It’s kinda of fun to do the impossible” is going to create things that will change peoples lives and he did and I anticipate nothing less from this quiet, intimate club secreted away on the grounds of the Happiest place on earth!!
Ok, so we are packed and ready to go and H is bouncing off the walls, talking about Space Mountain and Jedi Training.B B Yes, his last trip there I was “that” mom that took her kid screaming and kicking on Space Mountain and Tower of Terror!! I knew that he was afraid and just like I knew that once he got on and tried the ride, he would love it!! Guess what? He did.B There is a lesson in that somewhere…
This all seems a little convoluted and it’s just coz so much is going through my head.B So many memories, so much of the story, my own, my moms and even the kids!! I’m going to end this though with just this

“To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” Walt Disney

  1. Even though I was just there in October, I am still jealous. I told you that I grew up in Orange County and lived about a mile away from Disneyland. My mom lived her last years just down the road. It’s home to me.
    Enjoy your trip.
